About Us

こんにちは!(konnichiwa!) Welcome to Hai Five Japanese School! Do you like traveling to Japan? Do you like watching Anime? Or are you passionate about Japanese culture? And you want to learn Japanese but you can’t find any Japanese Schools near you? I got you!

After moving to this area, I realised that there are no Japanese Language Schools around the area. Which means, if someone in the area wants to learn Japanese, what do they do…?!

That’s how I started thinking of establishing my own school. I’m always very passionate about teaching Japanese and am quite particular about how I prepare and what I do in my classes to meet my students’ expectation. So that, I decided to do my own school!

Learning a new language is fun but also it’s challenging. I strongly believe that continuous learning is the key when it comes to learning a language, even little by little at a slow pace.

My mission is to create a Japanese learning classroom that is approachable, affordable, and easy to stay motivated. (and easy access!)

Want to learn Japanese for travel, exams, or just for fun? Let’s do it! Looking forward to meeting you!

Founder/Japanese Teacher

Miki

I’ve been teaching Japanese for over 12 years. I earned my undergraduate degree in Japanese Education from Kyoto University of Foreign Studies, and later completed a Master’s in Applied Japanese Linguistics at Waseda University in Tokyo. I’ve taught both in classrooms and online, and also worked as a head teacher at a Japanese language school in Melbourne. Outside of work, I enjoy baking and exploring local cafés.

I graduated with a degree in Japanese Language, specialising in Japanese Language Education, and obtained a teaching licence for secondary schools in Japan. I also have experience working as a Language Teaching Assistant at a secondary school in Victoria. I completed my teaching practicum at a university in Taiwan and spent three years volunteering in online classes, supporting students of all ages, proficiency levels, and learning needs. Outside of teaching, I enjoy reading, travelling, watching movies, and cooking. I’ve also practised calligraphy for 10 years, and I love connecting with people through Japanese language and culture. I look forward to learning Japanese together with you!

Hiroko

I’ve taught Japanese for nearly four years in Melbourne, as well as online to students in Japan, including professionals working for global companies. Over the years, I’ve taught students from a wide range of backgrounds, supporting them with proficiency exams, professional communication, and everyday life in Japan. I tailor my lessons to each student’s individual goals and interests. I’m currently studying Japanese linguistics at a university in Kyoto to further deepen my knowledge of both classical and modern Japanese. Outside of teaching, I enjoy café hopping, travelling, and collecting cute little things. Outside of teaching, I enjoy café hopping, travelling, and collecting cute little things.

Masumi

I’ve experience teaching in kindergartens in both Japan and Australia, where I worked closely with young children and supported their early language development in a fun and engaging way. I’ve completed the 420-hour Japanese Language Teacher Training Course, and have also taught Japanese to children at an international school in Tokyo. In addition, I’ve supported classes as a teaching assistant at a Japanese language school. I enjoy travelling, cooking, watching soccer, playing the piano, and collecting children’s picture books and stationery. I also practise Japanese calligraphy, and sometimes bring materials from Japan to share with students who are interested. 😊
